Asylum seekers from countries such as Haiti, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Cuba and from Africa and other regions of the world, recently began to cross Mexico’s southern border. Their intention is to try to reach border cities in order to apply for asylum at U.S. ports of entry or to cross the border illegally. In this presentation, Professor Rafael Alarcon examines the experience of these migrants in the city of Tijuana and the responses from the U.S. and Mexican governments.
